Residential Property Measured Survey & As-Built Drawings – Hornsey

Results at a Glance

Completed a measured building survey and produced a coordinated as-built drawing set.

Issued a draft drawing pack for review before releasing the final files.

Provided plans, elevations and a section suitable for onward design work.

Supplied CAD files in an older AutoCAD format to match the client’s software.

The Challenge

The client needed a full measured survey and a set of existing (as-built) drawings for a residential property in Hornsey, North London, including floor plans, elevations and a section. As this was an initial engagement, the client asked detailed questions about drawing standards and presentation, with clear preferences for a simple, UK-style output (clean linework, no hatching/colour).

The programme also required careful coordination around access and attendance times, with the survey arranged to align with the client’s availability on site. Finally, the client later required the CAD files to be re-issued in an older AutoCAD version to ensure compatibility with their setup.

Our Solution

We confirmed the drawing scope upfront and arranged a site visit within the requested time window. Once access was coordinated, our surveyor attended site to capture the measurements needed to produce accurate existing drawings.

Following the survey, we produced a draft drawing pack for review, allowing the client to check layout and content before final issue. After confirmation, we released the final drawing pack and supporting project files. When the client requested an older CAD format, we re-issued the DWG files in a compatible version so the drawings could be opened and used without disruption.

The Process

Agreeing Scope, Fee and Friday Access
We confirmed the required existing drawing set (plans, roof plan, elevations and a section) and captured the client’s presentation preferences to ensure the output matched UK conventions. Access requirements and preferred attendance times were noted early to support smooth site coordination.
On-Site Survey
A site visit was arranged to align with the client’s availability. We requested a point of contact who could be present and reachable on the day, helping the surveyor coordinate arrival and gain access without delays.
Cross-Checking Before Leaving
Our surveyor attended site and collected the measurements needed to produce accurate existing drawings. Key geometry and features were captured to support coordinated plans, elevations and a section that could be used confidently for onward project stages.
Turning Survey into Plans and Elevations
We converted the survey data into CAD drawings and issued a draft pack for review. This allowed the client to check content and presentation before final issue, maintaining a clear, linework-led style aligned with the requested drawing approach.
Draft Review and Final Handover
After review, we released the final drawing set in DWG and PDF formats along with site photographs. When the client requested an older CAD version for compatibility, we re-issued the DWGs accordingly so the files could be opened and used immediately.

Results & Impact

The client received a complete as-built drawing set for the Hornsey property, covering plans, elevations and a section in both DWG and PDF formats, supported by site photographs. The staged draft-to-final workflow helped confirm the output matched the requested presentation style, and re-issuing the CAD files in an older version ensured smooth use within the client’s software environment.
