Residential Measured Building Survey in Kingston upon Thames

Results at a Glance

Existing floor plans, roof plan, elevations and a section issued as a coordinated drawing set

Missing level information identified from client mark-ups and incorporated into updated drawings

Additional site visit completed to capture tree positions and trunk circumferences for an updated tree plan

Final handover provided in CAD and PDF formats with supporting site photographs

The Challenge

The client needed a measured survey and a full set of existing drawings for a residential property in Kingston upon Thames, including floor plans (ground, first and roof), all elevations, and a section through the staircase with roof structure information. They also requested broader site information such as levels and external features to support their design and coordination work.

Following issue of the draft pack, the client reviewed and marked up items that were missing from the requirements they expected to be measured, particularly level-related information. In addition, tree locations and trunk circumferences were requested after the initial scope had been agreed, which meant the team needed to confirm what was feasible from the existing visit and what would require additional capture on site.

Our Solution

PlanCraftDaily arranged the survey attendance and produced an initial draft drawing pack covering the agreed outputs: existing floor plans, roof plan, elevations and a section. The drafts were issued for review so the client team could quickly begin coordination and return mark-ups against their requirements.

After receiving the mark-ups, the drawings were updated to address the missing information raised by the client. Where site-level items were requested that sit outside a standard measured building survey approach, this was clearly flagged so expectations stayed aligned.

To support the late-stage request for tree information, an additional visit was scheduled with the same surveyor to capture tree positions and trunk circumferences, along with corresponding photographs. This information was then compiled into an updated “Existing Tree Plan” for the client’s use.

The Process

Agreeing Scope, Fee and Friday Access
Reviewed the requested scope for the property, including existing floor plans, roof plan, elevations and a section. Confirmed access arrangements and the need for coordination with the person attending site. Logged any additional requirements and clarified which items would fall outside a standard measured building survey.
On-Site Survey
Scheduled the survey visit and shared surveyor contact details for on-the-day coordination. Confirmed who would be present to provide access and respond to any site queries. Where access changes occurred, a revised visit plan was agreed to ensure the survey could be completed effectively.
Cross-Checking Before Leaving
Completed the measured building survey of the residential property to capture the information needed for floor plans, roof plan, elevations and a section. Photographs were taken to support drawing production and to provide visual reference during CAD drafting and later client review.
Turning Survey into Plans and Elevations
Produced a draft drawing pack and issued it for client review. After receiving mark-ups highlighting missing information, updated the drawings accordingly and reissued the revised set. Internal checking was applied to maintain consistency across plans, elevations and the section.
Draft Review and Final Handover
Arranged an additional visit to capture tree positions and trunk circumferences requested after the initial scope, along with supporting photographs. Compiled this information into an updated existing tree plan and delivered the final project outputs in CAD and PDF formats with site photographs.
