The Challenge

The client needed a complete set of existing (as-built) drawings for a residential property in Chessington to support an extension and loft conversion. The requested pack included measured floor plans, a roof plan, elevations, a section, and site/location plans, all required in AutoCAD format.

Early on, the scope needed clarifying—specifically whether the rear outbuilding/garage should be surveyed. The client confirmed it was not required because the planned works were focused on the main house. The project also required coordinating a suitable survey appointment and producing drawings in a format that could be shared with the wider project team.

Our Solution

PlanCraftDaily confirmed the deliverables and arranged a site visit with a defined arrival window. After the survey was completed, the information collected on site was translated into a structured drawing set covering the areas requested: two floor plans, a roof plan, three elevations, one section, and a site & location plan.

We issued a draft drawing pack first, allowing the client to review the outputs before final issue. Once confirmed, we provided the complete final pack, including CAD and PDF drawing files along with site photographs, ensuring the documentation was ready to support the next stages of design and coordination for the proposed extension and loft conversion.

The Process

Agreeing Scope, Fee and Friday Access
We confirmed the client’s required existing drawing deliverables for an extension and loft conversion project, including plans, roof plan, elevations, section, and site/location plans. We also clarified whether the rear outbuilding/garage was to be included, and agreed the survey would focus on the main house only.
On-Site Survey
A survey appointment was arranged with an agreed arrival window to suit the client. Surveyor details were provided in advance, ensuring the client knew who would attend and when. This allowed the site visit to proceed smoothly and ensured access could be prepared ahead of time.
Cross-Checking Before Leaving
The property was measured on site to capture the information needed to produce accurate as-built drawings. The survey focused on the main dwelling as agreed, gathering the measurements required for the floor plans, roof plan, elevations, section, and the site/location plan.
Turning Survey into Plans and Elevations
Using the survey data, we produced the initial CAD drawing set and issued a draft pack for review. This step allowed the client to check the layout, drawing coverage, and overall completeness against the agreed list before the final files were prepared for issue.
Draft Review and Final Handover
After the draft review stage, we issued the final drawing pack, including the CAD (DWG) files and PDF drawings, alongside site photographs. The completed pack provided a clear existing-condition baseline, ready to be used for design development and coordination of the extension and loft conversion.
