The Challenge

The client needed a measured survey and a complete set of existing drawings for a mixed-use property in Tooting, including the upper floors and loft. A key constraint was that the ground-floor shop was occupied on a long lease and could not be vacant, so the survey had to be planned to work safely and efficiently around an active, busy business.

The survey visit also needed a specific arrival window, with clear on-site coordination to keep disruption to a minimum. In addition to capturing the building accurately, the client required a defined drawing scope covering multiple floor plans, a roof plan, front and rear elevations, and a section—ready to be issued in both CAD and PDF formats.

Our Solution

PlanCraftDaily coordinated the survey booking and provided the assigned surveyor’s details in advance so access could be managed smoothly. The visit was scheduled within the agreed arrival window, with the approach tailored to maintain the shop’s day-to-day operation while measurements were taken.

Following the site visit, we produced the existing drawing set to the agreed scope: three floor plans (covering the upper levels and loft), one roof plan, two elevations (front and rear), and one section. A draft drawing pack was first issued for review, then the final drawing package was released once the client confirmed everything was in order, including the CAD and PDF files and accompanying site photographs.

The Process

Agreeing Scope, Fee and Friday Access
We confirmed the required existing drawing scope (plans, roof plan, elevations, and section) and planned the survey around the client’s access constraints. Particular attention was given to coordinating entry times and ensuring the approach would work while the ground-floor retail unit remained operational.
On-Site Survey
A survey slot was scheduled with a clear arrival window, and the surveyor’s contact details were shared ahead of time. This allowed the client to coordinate access and ensure measurements could be taken efficiently, without requiring the shop to be vacant.
Cross-Checking Before Leaving
Our surveyor attended site and captured the measurements needed to produce accurate existing drawings for the upper floors and loft, while respecting the operational needs of the live retail unit. Notes and supporting site photographs were collected to aid the drawing production stage.
Turning Survey into Plans and Elevations
Using the measured site data, we produced the existing drawings in CAD, matching the agreed deliverables. A draft drawing pack was then issued to the client for review, enabling any final checks to be made before issuing the completed files.
Draft Review and Final Handover
After the client confirmed the draft pack, we issued the final outputs: CAD (DWG) files, PDF drawings, and the site photographs. This ensured the client had a complete, consistent set of existing documentation ready for onward design and coordination.
